Instances of Major Genocide in the Modern Era

In each of the criteria for what is constituted genocide, the Armenian case
is a textbook example. Other such genocides of the modern era have taken
place against Jews and Gypsies and many other groups in Nazi Germany. Since 1945 genocide has occurred in Cambodia, East Timor, Rwanda, and today, in 2005, the crime is taking place in the Darfur region of the Sudan. Armenian Genocide 1915: Number of victims :- up to 1,500,000

Nazi Germany 1933-1945: Number of victims :- 12,000,000. Half of these victims were Jews and the other half included Gypsies, Blacks, the Disabled, Homosexuals, Communists and Jehovah Witnesses.

Cambodia 1970s: Number of victims :- up to 2,000,000

Rwanda 1990s: Number of victims :- 800,000

Darfur 2004 till present: Number of victims :- still as yet undefined. [www.darfurgenocide.org]
