Buntingford and parishes transport Survey
This survey
trys to identify the main destinations/services that people travel to
and then listed the number of other destinations that one or two residents
visited ie under Q1 for work/school College 251 Buntingford residents
stayed in Buntingford but other residents travel to some 106 other
destinations ranging from Brighton to Newcastle - (presuming this is for
college/university).
Also enclose the
individual comments made which
might make some good
headings/discussion points.

Villages do use Buntingford for the
following services :
Doctors
Dentist
Other key services – Bank, PO, information and other
non-food services
Buntingford is frequently used for:
Work/School, College and University
(but
residents also travel to some 122 other destinations - presumably work and
college/university)
Main food shopping
Leisure/Sporting centre
The bulk of the journeys are by car (in the range 73 –100%) with train,
bus and walking accounting for at most 12% of journeys.
I enclose some 480+ comments that have been made about transport of
which;
185 comments were related to bus services
125 related to public transport
Other comments related to rail, cars, traffic/congestion and roads.
Some of the issues can be resolved by:
Ø
better publicity for existing services ie 700 link to
Stevenage and Bishop’s Stortford,
Ø
developing local community transport schemes.
Ø
Others will require a more thorough review, esp. evening
services, work and college links.
Concentrate on basic issues:
1.
Information on existing transport provision:
Ø
wider promotion of Area Guide 7, if necessary produce a
simplified
area/network map with main destinations and frequencies
.
Ø
Village timetables
2.
Investigate the potential for some specific changes to
existing services:
Ø
Extend evening operating times,
Ø
links to Royston/Hertford/Bishops Stortford rail stations.
3.
Look at developing links to/in villages:
Ø
Car sharing
Ø
Local taxi schemes for local shopping trips –
including BASH and HAD schemes if appropriate.
I am happy to discuss the full results if the Transport Committee and/or LAP
and individual Parish Councils wish, as I have concentrated on the transport
elements and issues raised by residents.
The survey had shown that the original assumptions about the transport network
serving Buntingford
and parishes were reasonable, in that the Transport sub committee identified
concerns over access:
Ø
to services in the villages
Ø
from the villages to Buntingford
Ø
services and facilities in larger towns
The survey gives the LAP and partner
agencies specific issues to address and how the results
can be fed into local service provision.
