Part of the Bell House Gallery was originally the Bell Inn
shown in this photo from 1910.
The Inn had very extensive barns, with large lofts for blacksmiths,
grooms etc. to stay in. There was a meadow for the horses and Bell Barns,
which are still there.People used to change horses at the Bell before
continuing their journey.
Queen Elizabeth I once stayed in the Bell Inn
on one of her visits to the north.
